Italian theatre group
‘Teatro significa vivere sul serio quello che gli altri, nella vita, recitano male’ (’theatre means living seriously what others in life act badly’) – Eduardo De Filippo (1900-1984)
The company was founded following an idea from Dr Rossella Riccobono, lecturer of the Department of Italian at the School of Modern Languages at the University of St Andrews, and is developing in collaboration with the Italian Society of St Andrews. It is a project carried out by scholars, students and lovers of the Italian theatre with the ambition of creating a new platform for artistic expression and theatrical experimentation.
On 18th March 2011 the company will stage the adaptation of the novel Scontro di civiltà per un ascensore a piazza Vittorio (Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio, 2006) by the Algerian Amara Lakhous.
The comedy will be performed in Italian with the projection of English subtitles on a side screen.
At a later date: The theatre company will hold the first seminar with the actor, director and stand-up comedian Salvatore Mincione Guarino, director of the company C.A.S.T.
On 25th April 2010 the company staged its first work: an adaptation of the comedy in three acts La fortuna si diverte.
Mario Prisco has a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Naples Federico II and a masters degree in Management of Art and Cultures at the University of Naples Suor Orsola Benincasa. He is currently a PhD student at the University of St Andrews, focusing on the migrant literature in Italian and the representation of cultural diversity in contemporary Italy.
He came to his theatre activity relatively late, and played in amateur companies until he met Salvatore Mincione Guarino. He is an actor of the company C.A.S.T.
